Greetings from President Dr. Barry H. Corey

The season of Lent invites Christ followers into a sacred space of repentance and contemplation. More than just a period of abstaining from social media or sweets (or whatever else you might hold too much allure for you), Lent is a meaningful liturgical season in which we walk the road to Calvary with Christ. Especially in this season of history, this is a time to be contrite of heart, humbling ourselves before God and each other, and to revive our endeavor to live like Jesus as healers in our relationships, our work, and our nation. It is also a time to recall ourselves to lives of evangelism and discipleship, what the cross calls us to do.

I am grateful that the Biola University Center for Christianity, Culture, and the Arts once again presents the Lent Project: a 53-day aesthetically guided meditation on Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Lent can be a beautifully reflective time for us to quiet our hearts, anticipate Christ’s sacrifice for us and embrace the hope that his death and resurrection represent. It’s a time of self-examination, prayer and simple living, pondering life in this valley of tears while also envisioning the new, vibrant life Christ offers which empowers us to be repairers of the breach. We do this out of gratitude for the greatest breach that has been repaired in us, the sin from which we have been forgiven by God’s grace in Christ.

May you enjoy, share, and be edified by this resource as we collectively reflect on the suffering and triumph of history’s great savior: Messiah Jesus Christ, the King.

About the 2026 Lent Project

A Lenten Meditation on the Gospel of Mark: The Servant King We Long to Know

The 2026 Lent Project features daily meditations from the Gospel of Mark. The entire text of Mark's Gospel is contained within this project. Using language and details that heighten Christ’s mighty deeds and words, Mark is on a mission to convince his readers that Jesus is indeed the victorious Servant Messiah. Mark graphically details a series of miraculous episodes that are transformational not only for the original New Testament recipients, but also for contemporary readers. The genius of Mark’s writing style is that he invites all of us into the throes of the gospel as participants.

The 2026 Lent Project devotionals will begin on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and continue through the end of Bright Week on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
