I Am Sun Mu

Join us for a special screening and discussion of alum Adam Sjöberg's new film, I Am Sun Mu, a documentary film profiling North Korean artist Sun Mu. After the screening, Adam will be joined by Justin Wheeler, Biola alum and the Vice President of Liberty in North Korea.

I Am Sun Mu  is a 2015 documentary film by Adam Sjöberg profiling artist Sun Mu (alias meaning “no boundaries”), a North Korean defector wanted by the state for execution. Sun Mu uses his art to counter the oppressive propaganda of his home country. The film follows Sun Mu as he prepares undercover for a solo exhibition in China, potentially risking his own freedom and safety. His hidden identity is nearly compromised when Chinese and North Korean authorities shutter the massive historical exhibit in Beijing.

ADAM SJOBERG
Co-founder of Required Reading Productions, Adam Sjöberg is a filmmaker, photojournalist and a Biola alum (2007). He has directed the documentaries Shake the Dust (executive produced by rapper Nas) and I Am Sun Mu. Adam Sjöberg has traveled to over 60 countries covering conflict and natural disaster, design and architecture, beauty and suffering, light and darkness. His work is imbued with his unique personal touch - and an intimacy with his characters. His projects have been featured by dozens of international outlets including BBC World News, Wired Magazine, Paste Magazine, ESPN Magazine, Rolling Stone Magazine, the CBS Evening News and he has collaborated with a broad range of talent - from orphans and refugees, to the likes of NFL great Troy Polamalu and rap superstar Nasir (Nas) Jones. He travels three quarters of the year but is based in Los Angeles.

MARIANA BLANCO
Mariana Blanco is a documentary filmmaker based in Los Angeles. Her work has been shown at Sundance Film Festival and won TED’s Ideas Worth Spreading. As a documentary editor, she has worked with Adam Sjöberg on Shake the Dust and I Am Sun Mu.
