David Holben began playing tuba in 1985 in Pittsburgh, PA, where he studied with David McCollum and Matthew Shiner for 7 years. He holds a B.M. from Eastman School of Music, and an M.M. from the University of Arizona. His major teachers include Dr. Cherry Beauregard, Jim Self and Norm Pearson. David's doctoral studies in music began at the University of Arizona, and is now nearing completion at the University of Southern California. He has toured and recorded with the Eastman Wind Ensemble, the University of Arizona’s Wind Ensemble, and has played under the baton of several masters such as Leonard Slatkin, Larry Ratcliffe, John Painter. David has held teaching positions at Millikin University, Riverside City College, Biola University and University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Currently he an active music educator and freelance musician in the Los Angeles area. Mr. Holben has performed with the San Diego Symphony, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Pacific Brass Ensemble, Rio Hondo Symphony, Nyobi and Sterling Brass Quintets and several professional brass quintets across the country. Recently David has co-coordinated and performed as a soloist at the 2009 South Western Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference, and played a recital at the American Church in Paris, France.
