The Lent Project 2019

March 5 – April 27

Greetings from President Barry Corey

The season of Lent invites Christ followers into a sacred space of repentance and contemplation. More than just a period of abstaining from social media or sweets (or whatever else you might hold too much allure for you), Lent is a meaningful liturgical season in which we walk the road to Calvary with Christ. Especially in this season of history, this is a time to be contrite of heart, humbling ourselves before God and each other, and to revive our endeavor to live like Jesus as healers in our relationships, our work, and our nation. It is also a time to recall ourselves to lives of evangelism and discipleship, what the cross calls us to do.

I am grateful that the Biola University Center for Christianity, Culture, and the Arts once again presents the Lent Project: a 53-day aesthetically guided meditation on Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

Lent can be a beautifully reflective time for us to quiet our hearts, anticipate Christ’s sacrifice for us and embrace the hope that his death and resurrection represent. It’s a time of self-examination, prayer and simple living, pondering life in this valley of tears while also envisioning the new, vibrant life Christ offers which empowers us to be repairers of the breach. We do this out of gratitude for the greatest breach that has been repaired in us, the sin from which we have been forgiven by God’s grace in Christ.

May you enjoy, share, and be edified by this resource as we collectively reflect on the suffering and triumph of history’s great savior: Messiah Jesus Christ, the King.

About the Lent Project

The Lent Project is a daily devotional series celebrating the Lent season through art, music, poetry, prayer, Scripture, and a written devotion. Our goal is to help individuals to quiet their hearts and enter into a daily routine of worship and reflection during this meaningful season.

The sacrificial season of Lent is a time for us to purposefully go deeper with Christ through reflection, action, and renewal. It’s a time to realign our spirits and strengthen our dependence upon God. It’s a period of genuine repentance, of concentrated reconciliation with others, of fasting from all that distracts us, and recommitting our lives to Christ in love and service.
