Join us for a special symposium on the art and teaching career of Professor Emeritus Dan Callis on Saturday, October 18th 2025. Hosted by Biola's Art Department, this symposium will be a time for celebrating Dan's impact upon so many in the art community at Biola and beyond, as he has now retired from full-time teaching.

Working within a variety of media and visual traditions, Dan Callis’s artwork speaks into personal and cultural histories that are continually updated, discarded and reexamined. Exploring the poetics found at the intersection of materials and process, his work is derived from evolving practices, evidenced by labored surfaces of accumulation.

Registration is required for this event and is free for all guests. Click here to register.

The symposium will begin at 1.30 m. in Mayers Auditorium at Biola University. Doors will open at 1p.m. Refreshments will be provided at the break.

A gallery reception will follow from 5-6 p.m. with time to view Dan's two exhibitions, Fool's Errand: Still, and Fool's Errand: Wonder, in the Green Art Gallery and Bardwell Project Space, respectively. These shows will be on view until Thanksgiving week.
