By Dr. Jonathan Olson

Jonathan Olson (’03) is a Fellow in the Department of English at the University of Liverpool. His research, writing, and teaching focus on 16th- and 17th-century English literature, book history, and cinema. He grew up in Los Angeles and studied in the English department and the Torrey Honors Institute at Biola. He received an M.A. from the University of Birmingham, England, and a Ph.D. from the University of Liverpool, where he subsequently held a Leverhulme Early Career Fellowship. Last spring he was a Mellon Visiting Research Fellow in the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance at the University of Warwick, England, and at the Newberry Library, Chicago. Recently he has held visiting fellowships at the Houghton Library, the Clark Library, the Huntington Library, and the Beinecke Library for research towards his first book, Selling an English Canon: Literary Editing and Publishing, 1640–1710. He is also co-editing Milton in Translation: Theory and Practice, the first volume of essays on the global reception of Milton’s works into over twenty languages, and writing a chapter in The Films of Christopher Nolan.
