This is event is part of the annual SCORR Conference which is a national two-day conference where students, staff and faculty from Christian universities across the country join together to celebrate diversity within the body of Christ. This year's conference is on Friday and Saturday, February 21 and 22, 2014 in Sutherland Auditorium. Conference attendees will engage in dialogue and instruction that seeks transformational growth, resulting in the building of God’s Kingdom on earth. The SCORR theme this year is on the biblical concept of “Shalom.” A rich concept that is found throughout the scriptures, shalom signifies community, interdependence, vibrancy and human thriving. In Jeremiah 29:11 the Lord speaks to his people, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says the Lord, "thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give a future and a hope.” The Hebrew word for peace here is “Shalom.” Here we read how Shalom is our Lord’s will for us; it is a reality embedded in the Kingdom of God.

Dark Girls is a documentary exploring the deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color particularly dark skinned women, outside of and within the Black American culture. Dark Girls is a fascinating and controversial documentary film that goes underneath the surface to explore the prejudices that dark-skinned women face throughout the world. It explores the roots of classism, racism and the lack of self-esteem within a segment of cultures that span from America to the most remote corners of the globe. Women share their personal stories, touching on deeply ingrained beliefs and attitudes of society, while allowing generations to heal as they learn to love themselves for who they are.

This film will be screened with discussion in a special 3-hour session during Workshop Session #2 of the SCORR conference at 1:30 pm on Friday, February 21, 2014.
